Breitling writes a new chapter in the history of the Montbrillant chronograph by equipping it for the first time with Caliber 01, a movement developed and produced in the company's workshops in La Chaux-de-Fonds. It is a limited series of 2,000 pieces in steel and 200 in 18-karat red gold.With a look inspired by the 1940s and 1950s and featuring a circular slide rule bezel for pilots, the Montbrillant Chronograph takes its name from the building on Montbrillant Street, on the heights of La Chaux-de-Fonds, which replica watches it housed the Breitling laboratories from 1892 to 1979. Under these premises, the brand developed inventions and improvements that would significantly advance wrist chronograph movements, including the first independent pusher (1915), the second independent pusher (1934 ) and the first self-winding chronograph (1969). This was also where Breitling produced its first in-flight chronographs which contributed to its status as the “official supplier to world aviation” during the boom in air travel on propelled and later jet aircraft.
With this new Breitling watch, Montbrillant is associating its name with another milestone in the brand's history: the creation of the Breitling-manufactured Caliber 01 chronograph movement. The Montbrillant 01 Limited is produced in twin editions in steel and red gold, with the individual number engraved at 9 o'clock on the case band. The Mercury Silver dial has the traditional central hundredth of a second counter and an 18-karat gold version of the stylized B that was the brand's symbol until the mid-20th century. A transparent sapphire crystal caseback offers views of COSC-certified chronometer-certified Breitling Caliber 01 with its column wheel and original structure.U.S. retail price for the steel version with a leather strap will be $7,415.
